(PDF/EPUB) [The Cthulhu Casebooks – Sherlock Holmes and the Miskatonic Monstrosities] I ordered this volume based on its title, knowing that there were 3 books in this mash up of Holmes and Lovecraft, but not realizing how closely interlocked they are, since 15 years go by in Holmes' world between each of the 3 books. I love how short the chapters are too, because I feel like I can read a quick chapter whenever I want to get some reading in and not feel like I’m cutting a chapter in half. The book drew me in immediately though and the book was fin

There's almost always an anachronism, verbal or environmental, to kick you out of the dream, or some authors don't even bother to learn the period's grammar

I confess these are a bit of guilty pleasure and the author has set himself a huge task, to write in the style of both Doyle and Lovecraft ke

I enjoyed this but if you are a fan of Holmes and Watson in traditional I want to say real world settings you need to be willing to let go and accept a Cthulhu based reality where Holmes and Watson are standing between the old gods and the survival of the human race I confess these are a bit of guilty pleasure and the author has set himself a huge task to write in the style of both Doyle and Lovecraft keeping true to Holmes and Watson s characters whilst respecting Lovecraft s world and he does a really good job of blending these even using the structure of a Study in Scarlet where about a third of the book is written from the perspective of one of the supporting characters If you are a purist these books will be sacrilege but if you want a diversion from the traditional you will get a strong story a faithful interpretation of Holmes and Watson and a few gruesome monsters thrown in for good measure It would have been easy to have written a dramatic story think the literary euivalent of The Mummy with Tom Cruise but neither Lovecraft nor Doyle wrote like this and this author holds true to their measured and thoughtful style These will never be my Holmes and Watson but that doesn t stop me enjoying a bit of diversion and enjoying someone else s interpretation of two timeless characters Give it a go
