review Shortcake ä PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB free Will transfer to the one person Ben hates than Emelia and she'll have to move back to the one place she wants to forget than BenDid I mention Ben look likes man candy and smells like testosterone Not that Emelia notices She spends a lot of time not noticing things about Ben If you loved The Hating GameLet me start this againI have probably read The Hating Game about 10 times I know it will continue to launch books inspired by it But it s 4 years oldSo if you loved the hating game you will probably find this oddly derivative and won t like it as much Depending on how direct your comparisons If you didn t love the hating game it probably depends why but I m guessing you can go ahead and side eye this book with some level of disdainThe details Lucy oh nope Emmy she s short aka shortcake she s got wild blue eyes and she s so beautiful Who is miraculously also called by her formal name by the hero Joshu err nothis hero who also is a closed up book who doesn t get along with his familynot an almost doctor an ex marineBen He also refolds towels that Emmy folds makes sure everything is put away alphabetically and so on She also refers to him as a serial killer half the time I wonder why she s not afraid of himSo the touching part of this book is also the most far fetched Rose Ben s grandmother and the woman that Emmy cared for in her last 6 months dies Behind her she leaves her old nurse Emmy recovering from trauma suffering panic disorder and anxiety Echoes of how Lucy saw herself were written all over Emmy again Emmy was lonely too And lost at this point now that Rose has died Ben shows up gruff grunting Immediately thrown into a preposterous situation with a very strict set of instructions in order to share the estate with Emmy or its forfeit to his dad Cause that Rose is a genius Clearly matchmaking beyond the grave this thread was a little lackluster and uninteresting though had lovely notes of relationships beyond death to it In the first 20% I struggled with Emmy s motivation Why doesn t she just pack it in Why help Ben Particularly because he was hostile But if you didn t like the juvenile part of THG a lot of this stage of the book will grate More of it will seem threatening Even the way her space never feels like hers felt icky to me He carries her everywhere He slapped her ass on like night 3 of living together And worst of all most of this is pretty unconvincing At one point I kid you not I was in love with one of Ben s best friends He has 3 of them by the way and they all at some point indicate sexual or romantic interest in the heroine To which he called dibs and any reasonably evolved man would let a woman decide Remind me to bottle up her pheromones or whatever she s putting out becauseso special Not to mention the weird step cousin situation Anyway I thought one of said friends made a better match for Emmy and I m still not convinced he didn t Anyway there are coercive at best non consensual situations Their first kiss was stopped elevator esue Maybe a bit worse She cares for him when he s sick She only starts to clue into her feelings after being so broken down it ends up feeling like an ultimatum if he doesn t say the exact right thing he doesn t AND even the pace it s THG But THG this is not What s missing aside from beautifully thematic writing Aside from purposeful prose is the ABSOLUTE certainty I had that Lucy deep down knew That she was lying to herself That it was clearly a game a game yes I acknowledge that wore her down Lucy is also not traumatized And frankly Ben ain t no Joshua Though he s got some friends with serious potential and they do SHINE Joshua is a sensitive jerk Ben is a gruff toxic presence that justit didn t work as well See note about rooting for one of his friendsThe love declaration was fab no joke It probably pulled this out of the pit for me along with the rest of the friend dynamics I remain incredibly critical about Ben s characterization view spoiler his illness from which he nursed him back was a single night of withdrawal from opiate dependence stares blankly hide spoiler

review Shortcake ä PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB free Things Emelia Anderson would rather do than share a house with Benjamin Crawford1 Get strapped to a chair in a restaurant full of loud chewers2 Parachute into the Australian Outback armed with only a blowdart3 Live her best life as an ice road trucker in the Alaskan TundraBe This book had a plot line which with a talented writing could have led to a fun rom com but this is unfortunately a ridiculous attempt at writing a romantic comedy It is a mess with annoying characters missing pieces in the plot line unresolved issues all around adorned with stupidity of varied kinds Shortly it was an unbearable torture a total waste of my timeThe heroine Emmy is a nurse but after a trauma she had she couldn t work at hospitals any She took care of Ben s grandmother for 6 months before she passed away They really became good friends during that short time so she left valuable things to her in her will but there are of course some stipulations Ben the hero believes that she is a con artist who tricked his grandmother Ben s grandmother will forces them to live in her estate for 30 days and do the renovations together or the house will transfer to Ben s dad Mark and Ben doesn t want it as he hates himAnd then the whole ridiculous attempt at writing an enemies to lovers book starts The characters are so very juvenile and borderline unlikableEmmy acts likes a 5 or 10 year old child all the time No no 10 year old children are probably mature 5 it is And Ben is no better He is an immature annoying prick as well They have this stupid banter going on during which they contradict each other and do stupid stuff One of those stupid arguments lead them to a fake marriage and how they ended up deciding to fake marry and why they continue with the charade till the end is still a mystery to me Was it because some people thought they were in love and they didn t want to upset them Or what I think it was some stupid shit like that Utter bullshit There are many loose ends in the book and nothing makes sense Emmy has a step cousin who obviously has feelings for Emmy and is jealous of Ben Nothing about it is resolved in the book It is just there for a while and then forgottenEmmy is one of the weakest heroines I have ever read She like most spineless heroines in books suffers from lack of dignity and self respect Ben treats her like shit and she continues to lust for him all the while putting herself in humiliating and ridiculous situations She is no brains but all hormones She is just pathetic She has a non stop ovaries bursting syndromeBen is unlikable too but the book is written in 1st person point of view and we are only in Emmy s head so she sounds annoying than him but still he is not much better If he had a voice I am sure he would sound as irritating I never knew what he felt for her for a long while He hit on other women and if it weren t for Emmy s some childish jealous temper tantrums maybe he would have slept with other women during that 30 day period Who knows At one time he was heading to his room for a massage a woman promised to him and then Emmy got in his room before them and locked the door acting like a child so that they couldn t do it The book is full of dumb stuff like this For example he is pissed at her and locks the bathroom door so she has to pee in the garden I would have peed in his roomAnd while they are fighting like kids in kindergarten she continuously lusts after him and the writer does everything to make her seem even dumber than she is For example she needs to take her vibrator from his room but she doesn t ask for permission to collect her things from his room Like the idiot she is she screams that there is a raccoon in the house so he gets out of the room to catch it and then she goes into his room to search for her vibrator The whole ridiculous attempt ends in her sleeping in his bed because she is Oh so lonely and in the morning he takes a photo of them together lying in his bed with her holding her purple vibrator in her hand And our immature hero sends the photo to her step cousin who he thinks is her boyfriend at that time and thus wants to ruin their relationship I asked myself the same uestion over and over while reading this book Why would anyone behave like thatAnd the worst of all all this dumb shit is 360 pages Think of the torture After a point I understood it was a book that failed miserably in being a good one so I skimmed scanned the rest of it to see how it goes and it really never gets better Sorry but never touching anything else that has this writer s name on it
