My bookclub s first book club selection of 2020 is The Joy of Missing Out by Tonya Dalton We wanted something inspiring and motivational to kick off the new year The majority of us are moms so we can totally relate to the content of this book There are so many things to juggle between sports schedules school work etc This book shows readers how to prioritize the important items in life how to put what is important front and center With this overwhelming world we often lose belief in ourselves and we lose focus on what really matters We begin to limit ourselves and find that our lives are defined by our choices Tonya Dalton gives examples and provides many different scenarios within the book The focus is to use our most precious commodity time wiselyI was so so excited about this book and honestly it is great Especially for those who struggle with organizing their time and just feel like they could barely keep their head above water Unfortunately nothing in this book is really groundbreaking It says the same old thing other self help books have said but just focuses on motherhood That being said I have implemented many of these techniues LONG before I knew this book existed Many times I found myself waiting for the AHA moment It never came The book starts off incredibly strong and ends beautifully The middle left me struggling to pay attention The examples she uses are not relatable Sorry but I don t plan to be Warren Buffet nor do I want to be I just want to successfully get through each day feeling like a great person and a great mom I often found that the examples and the scenarios were a little privileged This book is not for the mom who has to work 2 or 3 jobs and has to choose between bills and food I have been in that situation and if I would have read this book then I would have thrown it across the roomThe author is the narrator and I know she hosts a podcast But honestly the narration was a problem for me She accented certain words For example We are LIMITING ourselves or LET s focus ON what REALLY matters It drove me nuts so I probably won t be listening to the podcast It just wasn t for me Since the podcast is successful I am assuming it is just a me thing Anyway I almost rated this book 2 stars based on my enjoyment But then I thought about it The ideas and tips are great and could be helpful I just already do most of what is suggested This book also comes with a reading guide for readers to help put these tools to the test So I actually rate this book 3 out of 5 stars I hope this book helps others to find their North Star Peloponnesian War us trim the fat get real with our purpose and start living  intentionally Goop Dalton helps readers by teaching Training for the New Alpinism us to focus on the most important things and create our own operating systems that are exclusive to our lives as individuals By doing this we can simplify and make life even better San Francisco Book ReviewDalton’s ground Greek Mythology up approach to productivity teaches readers to identify. This book is well written well structured well organized The author not only has created a prescriptive well developed plan for living by doing less she also provides free youtube videos handouts a discussion guide and podcasts around her passion of teaching people how to be productive over busy to embrace a growth mindset find their purposenorth star values rhythms and grow better at making the choices needed to embrace a life of joy rather than being overwhelmed and exhausted The author is positive engaging and encourages the reader to not only change her life actions and habits but to embrace a glass half full and positive spirit As well as a growth mindset over a fixed mindset which holds so much power for humans We need to know messing up is in our DNA falling flat on our faces happens way too much but we can t be stopped in our tracks or frozen in those mishaps mistakes faulty logic whatever we must keep striving to do better even if it s one tiny baby step forward And this is something other books have not spelled out so well She s a former teacher now productivity expert And I m a teacher and known for being productive I already share her philosophy and was aware of her tips so it s not anything radical for me and that makes writing a review challenging and choosing a star rating difficult Five stars are a big deal to me and I weigh carefully choosing them My one disappoint is that this is a Thomas Nelson Book a division of Harper Collins I expected it to have some connection to ministry God and faith But it s listed as Self Help personal growth and success The author uses terms like grace as a christian community would but there really is no mention of faith or God in growing to be a productive person But this isn t on the author I ve learned that Thomas Nelson s books can be super faith based or they can be empowering clean well done books that fit in a biblical worldview but appeal to a much wider audience when that is not emphasized in the actual publication But I can say clearly that her methods organization and formatting mixed with real life reasonsexperiences and a arsenal of practical tips does make this book stand out above and beyond other self help books and productivity books So I m marking it as amazing because if I d read this 20 years ago it would have been for me and as I interact with other book launchers younger than me or who need help navigating a path I am sensing their energy momentum and joy in following her lead The author is down to earth and talks about YOUR goals dreams aspirations She shares hard and fast strategies that if applied will help you meet your goals Dare I say this she s a motivator and excellent life coach maybe a better one that Rachel Hollis who is the author of the last self helpproductivity book I ve read Thankful to partner with Thomas Nelson and read an advanced copy of the book 2 Dalawa up in the morning already feeling behind Does the pressure of keeping it all together make you feel anxious and irritableTanya Dalton CEO and productivity expert offers you a liberating shift in perspective feeling overwhelmed isn't the result of having too much to do  it's from not knowing where to startDoing less might seem counterintuitive but doing less i.
