The Tenth Pan Book of Horror Stories summary ✓ 108 A dark world of deeds without a name The bedroom that was deep in blood The girl who slept with Satan The rocking horse that became a whipping post The rubber faced man who left a trail of slime A soft voiced innocence that surrendered itself to corruptionTwenty two tales to clutch your heart with the icy fingers of terror leaving you sleepless with cold eyes a prey to the malignant certainty of silent midnightCon. I arrived at the tenth book in the series of Pan Horror Stories as always expecting a mixed bag in terms of uality Overall this anthology left a favourable impression The focus in this volume tends to be on acts of mutilation body horror and revenge killing Obviously horror is different things to different people and so the selection that I have highlighted for your perusal below may be completely different from your perception of these storiesI won t bother commenting on the stories which are so so just those I thought were terrible and those that are the highlights of the Tenth BookI ll start with the dregs in the order in which they appear Something in the Cellar by A G J Rough this could have been a potentially good story about a man who bricks his wife up in the cellar shades of Poe here if it hadn t been for the frankly ridiculous ending and the fact that Rough writes the story like a synopsis rather than a fully fleshed out narrative I think I ve observed the same problem in other stories by this author earlier in the collection The End of the Line by Frances Stevens I genuinely have no clue what happens in this story It s either too subtle for my intelligence or else it s just badly conceived and executed I think the latter The Fat Thing by Martin Waddell which follows hot on the heels of The End of the Line so the reader is treated to two stinkers in a row Waddell s stories can be somewhat hit and miss I ve enjoyed a few of his from earlier collections but this is a very poor effort trying desperately to be ironic and horrific it succeeds in neither Based around nursery rhymes an entity with an appetite for fat implausibly stalks its victims and comments on its conuests The Image of the Damned by Alex Hamilton there s a good story in here struggling to escape the terrible convoluted prose style that obscures what s happening so much that I was coming to the end of whole pages not having a clue as to what was happening to whom The narrative centres on an apprentice to Madame Tussaud who learns his trade on the steps of the guillotine and whose skill is so good that he is able to substitute one of his waxworks for a condemned prisoner whom he has befriended It s such a shame that the style completely spoilt this one for meAnd what about the gems There are a fair few Once again in order of appearance Ringing Tone by John Christopher a subtly chilling tale about a seemingly upstanding gentleman who makes lewd phone calls to unsuspecting women to satisfy his carnal desires A really good ending to this one The Flatmate by B Lynn Barber Written as a series of diary entries this is a psychological chiller in which the new resident of a flat becomes obsessed with the previous occupant who has committed suicide As with several of the stories in this collection it has dated this was 1969 after all so I warn the 21st Century reader about some of the prejudices voiced within But I always think one has to understand a text in its context I really enjoyed this one Magical Mystery Trip by C A Cooper clearly inspired by The Beatles post Sgt Pepper this story takes a somewhat wry and disapproving look at late 1960s psychedelia and the poor central character seemingly trapped on a never ending hallucinogenic high Intriguing Terror of Two Hundred Below by William Sinclair the highlight of this collection the story revolves around macabre experiments into cryogenic suspension Unsurprisingly rather chilling Monkey Business by John Arthur the final story in the collection ensures it ends on a high dealing as it does with a British ex pat making his living as a tour guide in Singapore ensuring that an American tourist gets a holiday experience he will never forgetSo that s it My recommendations as to the stand outs and the stinkers in this the Tenth collection of Pan Horror Stories I really like the cover of this one too Colorados National Parks Monuments of slime A soft voiced innocence that surrendered itself to corruptionTwenty two tales to clutch your heart with the icy fingers Feeding Frenzy Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers #20 of terror leaving you sleepless with cold eyes a prey to the malignant certainty William Gerhardie A Biography of silent midnightCon. I arrived at the tenth book in the series When Destiny Calls of Pan Horror Stories as always expecting a mixed bag in terms Historia Calamitatum Abaelardi ad Amicum Suum Consolatoria of uality Overall this anthology left a favourable impression The focus in this volume tends to be Houseplant Handbook: Basic Growing Techniques and a Directory of 300 Everyday Houseplants on acts Cadillac Desert The American West and Its Disappearing Water of mutilation body horror and revenge killing Obviously horror is different things to different people and so the selection that I have highlighted for your perusal below may be completely different from your perception DIY Pantry- Your Comprehensive Guide to Hydrogen Peroxide, Lemon, Baking Soda, and Aromatherapy of these storiesI won t bother commenting The Retreat of the Elephants An Environmental History of China on the stories which are so so just those I thought were terrible and those that are the highlights La Madone des Sleepings of the Tenth BookI ll start with the dregs in the The Gift : the Crop Circles Deciphered order in which they appear Something in the Cellar by A G J Rough this could have been a potentially good story about a man who bricks his wife up in the cellar shades Indago of Poe here if it hadn t been for the frankly ridiculous ending and the fact that Rough writes the story like a synopsis rather than a fully fleshed Under the Bed Vol 04 No 09 out narrative I think I ve Silly Street observed the same problem in Blueprints Cardiology A Problem Oriented Approach Blueprints Series other stories by this author earlier in the collection The End Jason Cadence The Wolf's Mate #1 of the Line by Frances Stevens I genuinely have no clue what happens in this story It s either too subtle for my intelligence Beautiful Mess Beautiful #4 or else it s just badly conceived and executed I think the latter The Fat Thing by Martin Waddell which follows hot The Escort on the heels Myths Mayhem Sweet Tea of The End Crossdressing of the Line so the reader is treated to two stinkers in a row Waddell s stories can be somewhat hit and miss I ve enjoyed a few Death by Candlelight Clue #11 of his from earlier collections but this is a very poor effort trying desperately to be ironic and horrific it succeeds in neither Based around nursery rhymes an entity with an appetite for fat implausibly stalks its victims and comments Death by Candlelight on its conuests The Image Sixteen Alligators and a Trebuchet of the Damned by Alex Hamilton there s a good story in here struggling to escape the terrible convoluted prose style that His And Hers obscures what s happening so much that I was coming to the end Joshua through Malachi & Ancient Greece of whole pages not having a clue as to what was happening to whom The narrative centres Campanas Para Llamar Al Viento on an apprentice to Madame Tussaud who learns his trade The Gadfly on the steps Howard B Wigglebottom Learns to Listen of the guillotine and whose skill is so good that he is able to substitute Taming Tesla The Gilroy Clan #6 one The Write Baby and Toddler Words poetry uotes and titles for all of life's little moments scrapbooking scrapbook crafts of his waxworks for a condemned prisoner whom he has befriended It s such a shame that the style completely spoilt this The Tradition one for meAnd what about the gems There are a fair few Once again in Un Avion sans elle order Mrs Johnson Takes Her Sissy Stepson Futa MILF in Charge Book 1 of appearance Ringing Tone by John Christopher a subtly chilling tale about a seemingly upstanding gentleman who makes lewd phone calls to unsuspecting women to satisfy his carnal desires A really good ending to this Srimad Bhagavata Mahapurana Part 1 one The Flatmate by B Lynn Barber Written as a series Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Book 1 of diary entries this is a psychological chiller in which the new resident Le livre noir des gaspillages 2019 of a flat becomes Building Simple Model Steam Engines obsessed with the previous The Minotaurs Virgin Mate occupant who has committed suicide As with several Laghia de la mort Nouvelles of the stories in this collection it has dated this was 1969 after all so I warn the 21st Century reader about some Developers Dilemma of the prejudices voiced within But I always think Godspeed Earls of East Anglia #2 one has to understand a text in its context I really enjoyed this Death by Tea Bookstore Cafe Mystery #2 one Magical Mystery Trip by C A Cooper clearly inspired by The Beatles post Sgt Pepper this story takes a somewhat wry and disapproving look at late 1960s psychedelia and the poor central character seemingly trapped Post Breakup Sex Copperline #1 on a never ending hallucinogenic high Intriguing Terror Die Totenfrau des Herzogs of Two Hundred Below by William Sinclair the highlight The Great Trials of the Twenties The Watershed Decade in America's Courtrooms of this collection the story revolves around macabre experiments into cryogenic suspension Unsurprisingly rather chilling Monkey Business by John Arthur the final story in the collection ensures it ends Tatuaje on a high dealing as it does with a British ex pat making his living as a tour guide in Singapore ensuring that an American tourist gets a holiday experience he will never forgetSo that s it My recommendations as to the stand نابینا شہر میں آئینہ outs and the stinkers in this the Tenth collection Life Application Bible Study Guide of Pan Horror Stories I really like the cover Spurgeon's Sermons on Family and Home CH Spurgeon Sermon Series of this Beyond Desire one too

Bah it took me nearly four weeks into the month before I finished just a single bookWorse this was a book of short stories that I deliberately picked as I thought this might be a relatively fast reading experience given my limited fun time available for anything these daysHowever I soon figured that rather than finish this faster it probably took me longer to get through With a novel I might steal 10 minutes and read away on it just to make some progress Knowing that a short story may take half an hour or 40 minutes I actually needed larger chunks at my disposal before I made progressSo was it any goodI had often heard about those PAN collections but this is the first I ever read oneThe stories are generally pretty good and readable by authors I had never heard of None of them were masterful strokes of genius but also none were awful For the most part these were contemporary stories set in the 60s and 70s Great cover mind you

PDF READ The Tenth Pan Book of Horror Stories There are earlier and later Pan Books that have a few stories that I liked but this one was just one sadistic cheap thrill after another ranging from the workmanlike to the sub par Even some of the series regulars who often delivered an effective atmosphere seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel here
